about

sean mccormick

Sean's first camera was a No. 2 Brownie given to him at age five by his grandmother. This was a mistake, as the film and processing costs resulting from his new obsession nearly drove her into bankruptcy over the next two years. Thirty one years later, Sean still owns his first camera along with a large collection of antique film cameras and 35mm SLRs.

He pursued other interests during his teenage and early adult years becoming a chef, computer technician, technical author, and technical trainer along the way, but the interest in image-making remained. The advent of digital photography turned the interest back into an obsession, and Sean thinks of little else besides looking through a viewfinder these days (as his wife will tell you).

Sean specializes in fine art and landscape photography, and works out of his studio located just outside of Kirriemuir, Alberta. He is a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography, an accredited member of the Professional Photographers of Canada, the Alberta Professional Photographers Association, and the Canadian Association for Photographic Art. Sean's images are available for licensing exclusively through CP Images, a division of the Canadian Press.

Digital Portrait Photography and Lighting, which Sean co-authored with Catherine Jamieson, is now on sale.

jennifer mccormick

Jennifer is Sean's photographic assistant, conscience, and short-term memory. A former high-school English teacher, she is currently enjoying a self-imposed exile from academia so that she can indulge her creative side.

Her awareness of the quality and direction of light in combination with her ability to notice and attend to the smallest of details make her indispensable in the studio.

the images

All of the pictures you see in our portfolio were made by Sean McCormick. While Sean is the one with the camera, he'll be the first to admit that the only reason he is able to reach as high as he can is because he is standing on his wife Jennifer's shoulders. She is more than his photographic assistant, she is the very tripod his soul rests on. Without her, there would be no pictures worth taking.
